Expanding ending diagonals, unlike contracting ones, expand from a point of origin and occur in the 5th wave and C wave positions. They share rules with contracting ending diagonals as they signify the termination of a larger degree pattern, and their wave substructures should consist of 3 waves instead of 5. Although they are rarer than contracting ending diagonals, expanding diagonals are similarly followed by a sharp decline that retraces the entire move.
